So many computer users are now looking for headphones with microphone for a great variety of communication tasks. For example, if you want to talk with anyone anywhere in the world, many people use a free system called Skype, and this is most easily and inexpensively done using headphones with microphone, usually plugged into the USB port of the computer (but you could also plug into audio jacks as well with most computers).

This way you only have one plug to deal with, and the computer usually immediately can identify the device and install it automatically. No power is required in this case, either, as the USB port supplies the small amount of power needed, if any.
A headphone microphone is not the very best quality microphone available, but only those doing professional recordings would need a better one, in most cases.
Wireless Headphones With Microphone
Another way some folks want to connect is with a wireless headset. This of course raises the cost of the headphones, and it does still require something in the computer to receive the wireless signal. For example, sometimes this is done using a bluetooth headphones with microphone device, which some computers can automatically connect to wirelessly (though this is not common yet).
